Choose a photo booth for a playful printed souvenir, a self-photo studio for pictures you take together, or a photographer-led session for a directed portrait. Seoul offers all three, but they suit different moments in a trip. Start with how you want to spend the time and what you want to take home.
A photo strip or sticker souvenir after lunch, a private session with your partner, and a portrait in hanbok, traditional Korean clothing, are different outings. Below, each format has its own explanation and Porta picks, with links to the places' Porta-built pages.
Three ways to bring a photograph home
Self-photo does not necessarily mean a quick machine printout. A dedicated studio session can give you themed spaces, image selection and additional keepsakes. Likewise, a photographer's portfolio may show services with different inclusions. Compare the particular experience rather than judging it by the word studio.
1. Photo booths: a playful souvenir between other stops
Choose this format when the print itself is the memory: a strip for your travel journal, a sticker to keep with your ticket stubs, or something to share with a friend. Look at the sample layout before shooting. A tight frame that works for two faces may not be the picture you want for a larger group.
Agree on a few expressions before the first shot, then leave room for something spontaneous. If everyone wants their own copy, check the print quantity before paying. A digital download is another item to check, rather than something to infer from the presence of a printer.
Porta pick: Durine's Sticker Studio, Yeonnam. Its page describes curtained sticker-photo booths with early-2000s-style graphics, including pixel art and retro computer-inspired frames. There is also a crafting station for making keyrings from the sticker photos. Choose it when the stickers and decorating are part of the appeal.
Open its page to look at the prints and location before adding it to a Yeonnam neighborhood walk.
2. Self-photo studios: make taking the pictures the outing
A private self-photo session puts you in charge of the pictures. It suits a couple or friends who want to try poses together, or anyone who prefers controlling the shoot to being directed through it. Choose the space by the sample images: the background and color treatment become part of your souvenir.
Plan for the whole visit, including preparation and selecting pictures. A listed shooting duration is not necessarily the time from arriving to leaving. Then separate the included prints from extra files, frames and photo goods.
Porta pick: Custom Film Seongsu. Choose between Cozy Film and Breeze Film, the names of its themed shooting spaces. Its page lists two prints and a digital calendar file with a session, plus optional photo goods. Breeze Film also has seasonal backdrop editions; check the actual set for your travel date.

Porta pick: Custom Film Hongdae. The branch lists Cozy Film and Highteen Film. For a souvenir you make as part of the visit, look at Mini Full, its miniature-photo-house experience. Hongdae lists a 15-minute shoot but asks visitors to allow about an hour for Mini Full, so this belongs in your day as an activity.

3. Photographer-led studios: get help shaping the portrait
Choose a photographer when you would rather have help with posture, expression and the camera. Start with the kind of portrait you want. A professional headshot, a relaxed personal profile and a dressed-up travel memory ask for different examples in a portfolio.
Explain your preferences before the final edits. For instance: Please keep my face shape and skin texture, and only tidy temporary blemishes. Ask whether instructions and retouching discussions are available in a language you understand. A translated website does not tell you how the conversation during the session will work.
Porta pick: It's Me Photo Studio, Myeongdong. Its page lists profile portraits and commemorative hanbok photography, with traditional backdrops and props. This is the option to explore if wearing hanbok in a studio photograph sounds like the memory you want. Confirm what clothing and preparation are included in your chosen session.
Porta pick: Yuje Studio Seongsu. Its page lists photographer-led profile and ID photography and one-to-one chat retouching after photo selection. Explore its profile service for a composed portrait. The page notes limitations on same-day retouching for late sessions, so confirm delivery timing if you are leaving Seoul soon.
This guide is about travel photographs. A passport or visa picture is a separate job with requirements set by the authority receiving it; do not choose a souvenir-style edit for an official document.
Before choosing, decide what you want to keep
- The picture: a photo strip or sticker souvenir, a self-directed portrait or a photographer-led result.
- The people: how many of you are taking part and how many copies you want.
- The files: selected edited photographs, unedited originals, or both, as specified by the package.
- The finish: a print, frame, sticker or another physical keepsake.
- The timing: the complete visit and when you can collect or download the result.
Once those are clear, use the linked venue pages to compare the actual samples and current options. Fit a booth into an existing neighborhood visit; give a studio session its own space in the day. The right choice is the one whose experience and finished photographs both appeal to you.
FAQ
Is a self-photo studio the same as a photo booth?
A self-photo studio is a dedicated private session. Check its shooting time and package inclusions; a short photo-booth stop and a studio activity can take different amounts of time.
Which format should we choose if we feel awkward posing?
If being watched is the issue, taking pictures yourselves may appeal. If you want help with what to do in front of the camera, compare photographer-led sessions. Choose by the kind of help or privacy you want.
Do we receive all the digital photographs?
Check the package rather than assuming so. Prints, selected edited files and all original files can be different inclusions. Custom Film's branch pages distinguish basic session items from files and goods listed in additional packages.

About Porta: we build Korea guides from counted community recommendations, and the recommended places get pages of their own. Owners can claim their page — claiming hands them the controls and the visitor stats, never a spot in a guide. A listing here can't be bought; the counts decide.
